how does someone get to talk and socialise freely with people especially in a group setting without feeling intimidated or being uncomfortably quietHow can one interact freely with people they are not familiar with?
you can try and force yourself but that'll most likely only end in you feeling more uncomfortable. i think it really just depends on what type of person you are (shy, outgoing, etc) and what your mood is that day. you can be the most outgoing person in the world, but if you aren't confident and out of your shell today.. it'll be harder for you to socialize.
on the other hand, your surrounding also plays a huge role in whether or not you're able to comfortably interact with others. if these people come off as mean, judgemental, intimidating, and so forth, it will be much harder because you'll have to second guess everything you say, look you give, move you make.
the only advice someone can really give you is to just go out there and present yourself as you are. people will love you and people will hate you, but that's not your fault. just be you, and it will take a whole lot of time and practice, but it'll pay off in the end.
good luck. How can one interact freely with people they are not familiar with?
that is the million dollar question. I have the same problem but i don't think there will ever be a cure:(
Practice answering questions in polls and surveys so you get good at answering social questions. Yahoo answers has a great entertainment section with categories like jokes and riddles and polls and surveys. It is always nice to have a good joke to tell, so write some down so you don't forget the punch line. Polls and surveys has a lot of fun questions, so make a list of those so you have something to ask when the conversation stalls.

Learn to be comfortable around other people. Pay attention to what they are saying and when they look your way nod your head to acknowledge them and what they are talking about. Work on your self esteem also--take a college class in anything. It's a great learning experience and it gave me a great sense of accomplishment.
