How to get my dog from wanting to jump at people, other dogs, etc?

My 1 year old lab has a problem. If she sees people she immediatley wants to go say hi, not a calm hi, but i want to jump on you and lick you. I try to pull her the other way when i can, but she will literally be on her hind legs trying to lunge at people. It is not agressive at all, her tail is wagging and she's really excited. The other problem is when i run into people in the hallway of my apt building. It gets to be embarrassing sometimes, because i'm sure people think i haven't trained her at all. It's just when there is something distracting her or exciting her i can say ';no!'; ';sit!'; until i'm blue but it will do nothing. I know i'm supposed to walk to the other way but sometimes i can't... i.e when walking the sidewalk up to my apt building. I'm scared some people will think she's aggressive because when i can get her to sit it's when i see them coming from a distance so they prolly think she's not supposed to interact with people, but when they walk by she jumps. HELP!!!!How to get my dog from wanting to jump at people, other dogs, etc?
We've had the same problem with our pup. She's almost two and it's getting better. I have a friend who has been a big help. Have you taught her any commands yet? She needs to know how to sit, stay, down, and leave it. Probably the leave it command has helped me most. We used a clicker and reward to teach her the commands. She learned really fast using this method.

It takes a little time, but the rewards are great. Also, Jitter, (our dog) loves the attention that training requires.

Now when people come and she wants to jump up I tell her to ';leave it';. Then she comes back to me and I have her sit and stay. This seems to work for me.

Good luck on the training. It's fun to have an almost behaved dog.How to get my dog from wanting to jump at people, other dogs, etc?
Simple, take her to a personal trainer with other dogs and people. This should help solve your problem.
carry a small spray bottle filled with pure white vinegar.

When your dog jumps on someone spray the vinegar toward her face. It will not hurt her...dogs hate the smell...but it does no harm. When you spray...say ';NO';.

It will not take long...and she will associate jumping with the vinegar and she will not do it again...this also works for any other bad habit she may exhibit.

This is such a common problem. I have found two different ways that might help you. The good thing about jumping up problems in dogs is that they are usually an easy fix.

One way to train her not to do this is to get a small horn or something that makes a rather loud noise. Every time she jumps up on someone, squeeze the horn. Dogs have sensitive hearing and this will startle her.

Another thing to try is, every time she does this..take her into a room or the basement and close the door. Leave her in for about 5 mins or so. If she returns and does it again, do the same thing.

Both of these will probably have to be done many times before they start to work. If neither works for you, it might be time to call in a trainer.
