i heard that thats the case for muslims too...
how is that fair?
is that why there are so many missionaries??
but how do they interact with people with no feelings of superiority and hypocrisy?Do catholics think that anybody not christian will automatically go to hell?
No Catholics don't think that. In fact, Catholics don't declare anyone is ';gong to hell'; because only God knows the state of a person's soul at death. We pray for all souls, and have faith in God's mercy.Do catholics think that anybody not christian will automatically go to hell?
I'm Catholic and I don't think that.
Nope, that is a Protestant belief.
To my information, Catholic Christians believe that anyone that does good and lives a good life goes to heaven.
The truth is that no one knows
No only fundies go to hell they are the anti christ
people spoken about in the bible
Catholics believe that the fate of any given person is entirely up to the Lord, and that He is fully sovereign. He can save a Buddhist or Muslim or any other person, as He chooses to save. None of us have anything to say about it.
No the Catholics don't. I personally don't believe that and I've heard Catholic priests say they feel the same way. I don't believe the Muslims feel that way either.
I am Catholic since birth and I don't think like that.
Only some fundies among the non-Catholics have a view like that.
no!
i think there is a story i once heard...i think Bernadette asked Mary who the holiest person in the town or something was and she said that it was an old muslim widow...or something along that lines
basicaly if you live a decent life and help people you go to heaven
if you live a bad life but are truly sorry your sins...i think you go to purgatory or something
if you live a truly evil life and you weren't influenced by something really evil yourself (like child abuse or something i guess) and you completely reject God on your day of judgement then i'm afraid you're going down to hell =] lol
That's incorrect. Catholicism does NOT teach that. That is indeed a Protestant belief.
Catholicism teaches that you are saved by your faith AND your way of life (deeds. Be good to others, helping the needy and so forth). Catholicism also teaches that you can STILL repent even after death and that you'd need to go through purgation (Purgatory is a process NOT a place) prior to entering heaven (as you need to be pure)
What you are describing is a Protestant belief (not Catholicism)
That is definitely a Protestant belief. Protestants have a tendency of thinking that if you are not one of them, then you are not good enough. Catholics are taught that just because you were taught one thing wrong doesn't make it your fault and you should go to heaven.
No. The Catholic Church teaches, “Those also can attain to salvation who through no fault of their own do not know the Gospel of Christ or His Church, yet sincerely seek God and moved by grace strive by their deeds to do His will as it is known to them through the dictates of conscience. Nor does Divine Providence deny the helps necessary for salvation to those who, without blame on their part, have not yet arrived at an explicit knowledge of God and with His grace strive to live a good life.” (Lumen Gentium 16)

Take it from a Catholic-no they do not believe that at all, anybody who is not christian will be spared depending on God's judgment and their conscience.
It is in our Catechism- which contains all our Dogmas (beliefs).
'; The non-Christian may not be blamed for his ignorance of Christ and his Church; salvation is open to him also, if he seeks God sincerely and if he follows the commands of his conscience, for through this means the Holy Ghost acts upon all men; this divine action is not confined within the limited boundaries of the visible Church.';..';
Jesus Christ's Catholic Church teaches that only God can judge us and only God can know what is in a persons heart
heaven and hell is a gift from God to His people. whether you accept the Gift is up to you.
it has nothing to do with superiority if that were the case you could say that about politicians as well as lobbiest with political agendas - like gay marriage. based upon your thought process those who believe in it have no feelings and an air of superiority and hypocrisy.
BTW - life isn't fair
no where did you get this
No. At the Final Judgment, God will consider our opportunities to learn about Jesus and how we responded to that knowledge.
Jesus described a harsher judgment for those who had heard his teachings and seen his miracles, yet who still rejected him. Matt 11:
Then Jesus began to denounce the cities in which most of his miracles had been performed, because they did not repent. ';Woe to you, Korazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! If the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. But I tell you, it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you. And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted up to the skies? No, you will go down to the depths. If the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom, it would have remained to this day. But I tell you that it will be more bearable for Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.';
Similarly, it will be more bearable on the day of judgment for sincere pagans who listened to the voice of conscience and showed charity and mercy toward their neighbors than for ';Christians'; who corrupt themselves and young people with the culture of disease and death.
Cheers,
Bruce
