There's a lot of work being done at the moment into the rise of terms such as the ';knowledge society'; and the implications that new technolgies have on human interactions and society in general.

Have a quick look at the two sites below and they'll give you some justifications as to why IT should be studied from a sociological perspective. You don't have to commit to this perspective yourself, but an understanding of it will help in your assignment. How does sociology fit within my intended major of computer information systems?
Look into things like social media and new media. I think Stanford may be doing projects on things like Avatar psychology, and for instance if a doc is seeing a patient in a virtual world, how truthful that patient may be. Google Sociology and Virtual Worlds Or what you simply choose your avatar to look like on here.

Or look at something like ';viral media'; or ';viral marketing'; and how new bands or personalities can skyrocket on something like Myspace, YouTube, and FaceBook.

Or even something like internet bullying, online predators, and how security measures could be put in place to track abusers. Go something like the National Center for Missing and Exploited Childrens website, for the cyber stuff.

This combo may actually put you in good career shape for the emerging internet.

Theres also some work by a Dr. Castronova, on how things like the power structure of the players in MMORPGs.
