How can I talk to homeless people?

I'm going to volunteer tomorrow and my job will be to interact with homeless people.I'm afraid because I'm pretty quiet person but I really want to try this because I want to improve my social situation.I need help a little because I have no idea how to talk to homeless so not to offend them somehow and what topics can I talk about with them. How can I talk to homeless people?
Talk to them as you would any other adult. That's what they are. It used to be that one had to be a drunk or drug addict to end up on the streets, but no more. These people are just like you and your family, except that the lost their jobs and homes. Ask them what kind of help they need, but don't make any promises unless you can keep them. Ask them if they just want to talk. I'm proud of you. Thank you.

Just ask if you could talk to them. Have some food and water with you if they mention being hungry, and tell them you are volunteering and you want to know more about their situation. Sit down on the street with them to show you dont think that you are higher than them. Just be honest, listen and don't be condescending. Ask them questions about what would make their lives better. They're just regular people in an awful situation, treat them as such.

Good for you, seriously. Its a very noble cause.
I've been homeless and lived hard. They will be weary of you as of them they don't really care about you or what your doing because you already have it made with your fancy cars and little pretty house on the hills. they will ask you for money. give it to them bring 20 single dollars bills and give a dollar to each person. that would make a difference
';Once I fed the homeless. I'll never forget, the look upon their faces as I treated them with respect.';-Pink

Way to often, homeless people are belittled and treated like scum on the bottom of ones shoe. Just be normal, and listen to what they have to say. From what they say, you could ask questions from there. Talking to them, is just as easy as talking to someone standing right next to you.
